TEACHING

Tap and Musical Theatre Specialist | Academic Tutor | Dissertation Supervisor
With over two decades of experience in the world of dance, musical theatre, and academic tutoring, I have built a diverse and distinguished career as a specialist in tap, musical theatre choreography and dance, and academic studies. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of teaching and mentoring the next generation of performers at some of the UK’s most prestigious institutions.
Teaching Career
My teaching journey began in the classroom, where I honed a passion for cultivating students' creativity and technical expertise. I have worked with leading performing arts schools, including ArtsEd, Sylvia Young Theatre School, Mountview, and Bodywork Studios, delivering training in tap dance and musical theatre to students at all levels. I have also taught at pre-vocational level working with young dancers from the age of 6, including Dupont Dance Stage School in Leicester.
As a lecturer at Urdang Academy for almost 12 years, I played a pivotal role in shaping the educational experience of countless students and was responsible for designing several modules across the curriculum. In addition to teaching tap and musical theatre, I served as the Director of HE Programmes, overseeing the development of undergraduate programmes and ensuring that students received the highest standard of academic and artistic training. Within that time I also served and eventually led the team on various approval and validation events and was Chair of the Ethics Committee.
I further contributed to the academic field by teaching on the BA and MA Musical Theatre programmes at the **University of Wolverhampton, where I was also a dedicated Dissertation Supervisor. This role allowed me to combine expertise in musical theatre with a deep understanding of academic research, guiding students through the complexities of dissertation writing and scholarly inquiry.
Currently, I serve as an Associate Lecturer at Performers College in Birmingham, where I continue to teach tap dance and academic studies. My focus remains on blending technical excellence with the emotional depth required for a successful career in musical theatre.
Workshops and Professional Engagements

Beyond the classroom, I have shared my] expertise by leading workshops and classes across the UK. I have worked with leading organisations such as the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA), the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), the Associated Board of Dance (ABD), the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD), International Dance Supplies (IDS), the British Federation of Festivals (BIFF), and All England Dance (AED). These workshops cover a wide range of topics, from technical dance skills to performance psychology and pedagogy, offering students and teachers alike the opportunity to develop their craft in a nurturing yet challenging environment.
Teaching Philosophy
A passionate advocate for the holistic development of students, I believe that technical training is just one part of the equation. In my work, I emphasise the importance of fostering creativity, resilience, and critical thinking. By instilling both a strong technical foundation and an appreciation for the artistic and academic elements of performance, I aim to prepare students not only for success on stage but for a lifetime of personal and professional growth in the arts.
I am deeply committed to supporting the professional and academic development of each student, ensuring they leave with the confidence, skill, and knowledge to pursue their dreams in the highly competitive world of musical theatre and dance.
